STEAMED

Traditionally, people, educators and governments have spoken of innovation as a combination of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Yet from my personal experience over the last several decades, I’ve observed that this is an incomplete conversation, and the consequences of omission are significant.

I made this sculptural piece of art — a distillation kit, symbolizing the distillation of ideas, values, beliefs — in honor of STEAMED : science, technology, engineering, art, math, ethics and design. When all of these are practiced, by one group of people with integrity, in the right order, we create better and more sustainable systems and products in service to people.
